| Dear Lisa! Here we will describe the place where we spend most of our time - our school. |

The picture you're looking at is the photo of our school. It is a new modern building, built for the needs of the IV. and the I. Gymnasiums. The school is operating at this location, in New Zagreb, since January 1992. Till then the school changed several different locations (best known was today's Mimara Museum). The IV. Gymnasium was founded on 8th October 1934, when Zagreb was becoming a big industrial and commercial center. This year we celebrate the 65th anniversary of our school. IV. Gymnasium has always been known for its extra curricular activities: a famous choir, various sports activities, drama and journalist groups founded by teachers of Croatian, English and German. This year the fourth issue of Just Us - our English magazine, and the first issue of Komma - the magazine in German, finally saw the light of day. Teachers of Art, Biology, Croatian language and Geography guide pupils on school trips around Croatia and Europe. We are also linked to other schools in Europe such as Pecs (Hungary), Giessen (Germany), Newcastle (UK) and Ashland High School (Oregon, USA). Besides English, students are able to study German, French and Italian, and have opportunity to attend classes taught by a native German teacher. Students can also take the exam to get the diploma in German that is valid in Germany ("Deutsches Sprachdiplom"). The IV. Gymnasium belongs to UNESCO ASP (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization - Associated Schools Project) so we mark all the important dates connected with human and civil rights. This year we marked some important days regarding racism, discrimination, sexism, spending hours together talking and arguing about the different kinds of problems. The IV. Gymnasium developed the National Program of Human Rights Education, and participates in the projects Education for Democratic Citizenship, School Without Racism and Economic Education for Democratic Development. The students also take part in humanitarian work, collecting i.e. books, toys, food, money for those who need help. We are proud of the fact that school doesn't teach us only educational programs, but also how to be better people. Well, that would be all we've got to say about IV. Gymnasium. At least for now...
