Mail from Nicosia!

Dear Lisa,

Hi! I'm Constantine, a 16-year-old Cypriot. Your message cought my attention so I decided to write.
I go to high school. I like hanging out with my friends-boys and girls. We usually go to cinemas, clubs and cafes. I'm really into music as well. I also spend a lot of my time at the computer: chatting, surfing and playing are my favourites.

Click for a tour of CyprusThings in Cyprus are a bit odd: People are prosperous and live well. We don't face social problems such as drugs to a large extend. A foreigner hardly notices  that we face a serious poltical problem: the Cyprus problem. You see, Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when it was invaded by Turkey and half the island was occupied.Greek-Cypriots fled to the free south part of the island and the situation has remained virtually stable over the last 25 years. I mean can you believe that on the eve of entering the EU and for a quarter of a century our island is occupied?  So, I'm constantly looking forward to the future. I'm sure that in 5 years time, the most, Cyprus will become a member of the EU and then, many doors will open for us. If I want to travel around Europe I'll be free to do so without passports. If I want to study, work or even live in Europe again there'll be little problem. Do you believe that this is how is going to happen?I think I live in a dreamworld but I enjoy it!! Besides, if we- the youngsters- don't have any dreams, then who will?!   Anyway, I'm curious about life in Germany. By the way, I know some German but let's just keep our chat in English! So Lisa, where do you go out? How do you spend your time? Do you face any problems as a teenager in Germany?

OK, I look forward to your answer. Take care,

Constantine.
