Project UNEMPLOYED - The effectiveness of labour market oriented training for the long-term unemployed
Overview This project aimed at developing a conceptual model which could explain the effectiveness of labour market oriented training for the long-term unemployed.

The project encompassed the following major research activities:

  • an inventory of the existing training programmes for (long-term) unemployed in each of the participating countries, including the classification of schemes and initiatives based on dimensions;
  • a further development of the initial conceptual model (on the basis of a literature review);
  • survey research involving multi-level analysis.
The final model was not built, due to various reasons. In conclusion, research issues in performing a comparative European project were discussed, including an explanatory oriented’ approach. (Brandsma, 1999, pp. 2-15, 103)
Insight All aspects of the applied methodology, including figures related to models and classification, are described and discussed in the final report (Brandsma, 1999).
