Project WHOLE - Work process knowledge in technological and organisational development (Thematic Network)
Overview The network's aims was to investigate the knowledge-base which the workforce needs to adapt to the changes in working practices that are occurring across Europe, and to investigate how best to facilitate the acquisition of this knowledge through human resource development, the design of new technologies and organisational development.

A literature review was conducted and a series of conferences were held by the members of the network, at which they presented and discussed working papers based on field studies already carried out in their respective research centres; no primary research was undertaken.

Two main outcomes were envisage: first, to inform the European debate on policies for improving the employability and adaptability of the workforce in the emerging knowledge based economy; secondly, by integrating many different European traditions for theorising work-related knowledge, to contribute to the development of a common European understanding of this area. (Boreham et al., 2000, pp. 3, 11, 12)
