Method Survey: Comparative survey (INTEQUAL/ DUOQUAL)
Description The schemes of dually oriented qualifications were investigated in a comparative survey based on the analysis carried out in national case studies.

The survey was structured according to major themes of investigation:

Qualifications at upper secondary level;

  • The dimension of the schemes of dual qualification;
  • The place of dual qualifications within upper secondary education;
  • The type of certification awarded for dual qualifications;
  • The part of dual qualifications in the process of training and employment;
  • The target groups entering the schemes of dual qualification;
  • The scale of enrolment in schemes of dual qualification;
Combining vocational and general education;
  • Relation of dual qualifications to skilled work;
  • Relation between general and vocational subjects of dual qualifications;
  • Curricular structure of dual qualifications;
Dual orientation towards employment and higher education;
  • The orientation of dual qualifications towards employment;
  • The orientation of dual qualifications towards higher education;
  • The balance of dual orientation towards employment and higher education;
  • The performance of students graduating from dual qualifications;
  • The position of graduates with double qualifications on the labour market;
  • Patterns of dual progression.
For each theme, evidence was compiled in a comparative structure, based on specific conceptual models and indicators. The results were presented online in text units and figures. (Manning, 1999+, Comparative survey)
