The authors present a comprehensive and thorough analysis of the education system in the Republic of Cyprus in the context of  the socio-economic conditions of this country. They reflect developments of society and in particular of educational policy in the Mediterranean state also under historical aspects. The EU accession candidate which has accomplished a small "economic miracle" in the nineties is characterized as a dedicated and booming European country. Integral part of the positive result is a solid well developed education system with regard to indicators of quantity and quality. Technical education and vocational training have been structured and integrated in an efficient manner according to national needs. Foreign experts in the field of vocational education and training may learn from the example of Cyprus how the offer of vocational training and continuing training can be developed under the conditions of a society strongly orientated towards the service sector. Die Autoren analysieren das Bildungswesen der Republik Zypern im Kontext seiner sozio-ökonomischen Rahmenbedingungen. Sie untersuchen die gesellschaftliche, und insbesondere die bildungspolitische Entwicklung des Mittelmeerstaates, auch unter historischen Aspekten. Der EU-Beitrittskandidat, der in den neunziger Jahren ein kleines "Wirtschaftswunder" vollbracht hat, wird als ein engagiertes und aufstrebendes europäisches Land charakterisiert. Zur guten Bilanz der Republik Zypern gehört auch ein solides, qualitativ und quantitativ gut entwickeltes Bildungssystem, in dem die allgemeine, die technische und berufliche Bildung in effizienter Weise, vor allem im Hinblick auf die nationalen Bedürfnisse, strukturiert und integriert worden sind. Ausländische Berufsbildungsexperten können am Beispiel Zyperns studieren, wie die Angebote der Berufsausbildung und der beruflichen Weiterbildung unter den Bedingungen einer stark auf den Dienstleistungssektor ausgerichteten Wirtschaftsentwicklung zu gestalten sind.
