Training
for older workers |
| Outline |
New
approaches to the provision of training for older workers in Ireland have
been initiated with Trade Union backing. The qualifications acquired are
mainly work-based, the idea being to spread learning to the majority of
older workers. These tend to be receptive to learning in the work process,
while they would not go to seek training in colleges. Certification is
the competitive edge in this initiative. |
| Debate |
-
Accreditation
of prior learning should be robust and recognised.
-
Evaluation
should not just be guided by the criterion of whether the course 'sells',
but also at micro level: what the participants think.
-
Most required
among the key qualifications are 'team leader skills'.
