European
concept of a learning organisation |

The
European model of the learning organisation as proposed by Lundvall (European
Commission 1999) is being reviewed as part of the outcome of the FORUM
work package 'Learning in learning organisations', with the following conclusions
[MT]:
Competence
building is not enough: we should aim at a holistic view of the learning
organisation, including the following characteristics:

care of
people (facilitating individual development paths, and trust relationships
between persons);
-
managing
competences (developing expertise; linking of distinctive know-how and
individual performance);
-
development
of communities (supporting autonomous abilities for learning, and developing
communities of practice);
-
appropriate
use of ICTs (mainly communication, sense making, supporting joint technology
design).
