Controlling in continuing training at enterprises in European comparison
Concept Trends Findings Practice Challenge
Synopsis Findings highlighted below are related to training activities and training control:

Various types of training activities take place within the companies in order to meet the training requirements of their employees. On-the -job tuition is assigned the highest level of importance, followed by the organised settling-in of employees. Job-related or work-integrated forms of study are therefore more important than classical forms of study like in-company and external courses and seminars which, nevertheless, are also given a high status. Study which takes the form of project work, teamwork and workshops (once again job-related or work-integrated forms of study) are likewise considered to be important in a relatively large number of companies. In future, individual employees are expected to take on more responsibility for their own continuing vocational training, including more self-initiative and the readiness to invest personal free time.

The importance given to training control by the companies at present varies widely. For the future, however, many companies think that training control would be very important. Although a comprehensive system of control for continuing training is generally only in place in very few companies, most companies implement at least individual important elements. The highest importance among these is attributed to ascertaining the corporate training requirements, evaluating the training programmes, assessing the benefits and recording the costs. Indicators, which facilitate comparison and transparency, have a special status (Krekel et al. 2001, pp. 34, 37f., 49).

Reference More detailed results of the survey on companies in Austria, the Netherlands and Germany, in particular concerning the planning and control of training activities, are set out in the final publication (Krekel et al. 2001, pp. 28-48).
