A number of national VET system development projects were started in 2005 with support from the European Social Fund. They include research, development of methodologies, models and systems. The research activities with financial support from the ESF are directly linked to national VET policies stated in section 1. Research initiatives can be categorised under the following headings:
  • Development of the national qualification system (Project “Development of national qualification system”, Coordinator- Lithuanian labour Market Training Authority);
  • Development of VET standards (Project “Development of the System of VET Standards”, Coordinator – Methodological Centre for VET);
  • Analysis of training needs in sectors (Project “Development of the System of VET Standards”, Coordinator – Methodological Centre for VET); 
  • Development of the common quality assurance system for VET (Project “Development and implementation of common quality assurance system in vocational education and training”, Coordinator - Methodological Centre for VET);
  • Development of the guidance and counselling system (Projects “Development and implementation of guidance and counselling system” and “Creation and Implementation of Open Information, Counselling and Guidance System (AIKOS)”, Coordinator – Ministry of Education and Science);
  • Development of the vocational knowledge and competence assessment system (Project “Creation and Development of vocational knowledge and competence assessment system, Coordinator – Ministry of Education and Science).
